  1. There is no concrete proof that he was a member of either party.

There are a lot of Republican blogs that claim he was a republican on very slim connections.

  2. Republican.

In 1964 MLK denounced the Republican Candidate, Barry Goldwater, for being immoral and supporting racism.

Goldwater, like most Conservative Republicans, was a big supporter of Planned Parenthood and civil rights for homosexuals.  Dr. King was a Christian Reverend.

One of the reasons the Republican party now supports a Pro-Life position is because of MLK's rejection of Goldwater.

Goldwater, who was not a racist according to MLK, convinced Strom Thurmond to stop supporting segregation and join the Republican party.  Thurmond was a very powerful Senator and was instrumental in the Republicans winning the 1968 elections as well as providing support against George Wallace during Selma in 1966.

Today Democrats (who have never renounced their political platform in support of slavery, segregation or their political platform in opposition of civil rights and Woman's suffrage) complain that Thurmond never "fully" renounced his past segregationist positions.  The pot calling the kettle black.

Barry Goldwater also voted against the Republican 1964 Civil Rights amendment because he believed that it would be used to create "racial parity" and people would be hired or accepted at schools based on race.  Goldwater effectively predicted Affirmative Action long before it actually became an issue.

Because Goldwater voted against the 1964 civil rights act and supported immoral issues like choice in abortion and homosexual rights MLK denounced Goldwater.

In 1964 at the Democratic Convention the Democratic party recognized a black political party from Mississippi as being a valid group of Democrats.  MLK believed that this was a huge move on the part of the Democrats although he still believed that their racist Washington Power Block had to be destroyed.

After MLK's execution (properly assassination) the Democrats nominated the man MLK fought against in Selma in 1966 to become President.  George Wallace was the Presumptive Candidate when he was shot in May of 1972.  Even after Wallace was shot he won several states including Michigan.

I have no doubt that MLK was spinning in his grave fast enough to drill through concrete during the primaries of 1972.

Because of the shooting George McGovern became the Democratic Candidate for President in 1972.

MLK's position on abortion is more complex than you might expect.  MLK was a Baptist Minister and as most know the vast majority of Baptists are pro-Life.

In addition Planned Parenthood was originally derived from a group called Eugenicists.  These people believed in Darwinism and that they could decide whose genes should be allowed to continue in the race.  In the south Eugenicists targeted blacks for forced abortions and forced sterilizations.

MLK understood that some people, like Barry Goldwater, believed in actually planning parenthood.  Some people used abortion as a genocidal tool against blacks in the United States which is the primary reason MLK said that Goldwater's political position supported racism.

I would suggest that you research, purchase and read a document presented to the United Nations in 1951 called "We Charge Genocide" by Paul Robeson and William L. Patterson.

I also suggest that you review the Political Platform of the Democratic party prior to 1964.  While Democrats claim that they stopped opposing civil rights in in 1946 I can't find any documented evidence of this.  In fact there is a lot of documented evidence that the Democratic party continued opposing civil rights and supporting segregation.

In fact, "We Charge Genocide" lists the Democratic Party Platform positions of Pro-Slavery, Pro-Segregation and opposition to Civil Rights as being the causes of the African genocide in the United States.

Today the Democrats idolize their pro-slavery past by using the campaign symbol of the most genocidal US President ever.  In spite of being 1/4 black Jackson was rabidly pro-slavery and anti-native American.  Pretty sick.  Some of the anecdotal stories about how Jackson treated blacks and indians are pretty nasty.

  3. MLK was in fact a republican. Dont go into shock but there are many black republicans. They have a coalition at the Dem. shin dig in denver. Lynn Swann is Republican and recently spoke at a Black woman's republican group. It is not easy to be black and be republican in this race, but they are holding strong.

  4. Back when the Republican party actually cared about people and wanted to increase social justice, it counted MLK among its members.

But that Republican party is dead.  It died when Reagan took power.  The modern Republican party goes out of its way to side with the persecutor and never with the persecuted.  It sides with the corporation and never the unfairly dismissed worker.  It sides with the fat cat and not the single working mother.  The Republican party of MLK's day is gone, and no one can pretend that todays party is still the "party of Lincoln."

  5. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican and anyone who says otherwise is either lying or ignorant, and is probably a liberal.

  6. his core beliefs  would be considered republican, but enough lies and handouts by democrats have made it to where most blacks believe republicans are bad

  7. Avelda King the niece of Martin Luther King Jr. wrote an amazing article, "A Covenant With Life: Reclaiming MLK's Legacy".

This is the most articulate piece I could find to substantiate the claim that Martin Luther King was a Republican. She claims her grandfather, Dr. martin Luther King, Sr. or "Daddy King", was a Republican and her father was a Republican.

Mrs. Coretta Scott King actually urged Nixon (who voted for the 1957 Civil Rights Law) to help her husband when he was facing a threatening jail encounter. Nixon did not respond, but JFK did & brought the attention of the nation to Dr. King's plight.

Because of this phone call & action by JFK, Martin Luther King Jr. was very grateful (Coretta Scott King was pregnant at the time) for JFK's intervention and urged 1000,000 black voters to cast previously Republican votes for Senator Kennedy even though Kennedy had voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Law.

This one simple act of gratitude caused black America to quickly forget that the Republican Party was the Civil Rights party and the the Democratic Party was the party of the Ku Klux Klan. It was the Republicans who started the NAACP to stop the Democrats from lynching blacks. It was the Republican President Eisenhower who sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools, established the Civil Rights Commission in 1958.

  8. He was a Republican.

  9. He was a Republican,  And some, of his family are also Republicans.

  10. Republican.

    In part:

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860's, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's.

During the civil rights era of the 1960's, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court which resulted in the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was President Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

  11. i don't know but MLK is a truly fine man

  12. considering during those times there were signs like "no black people allowed", this toilet is only for "white women", basically black people werent even considered to be compared to a dog - or even human.

He had every right to fight for his freedom. Call him a racist but he did what he had to.

  13. Martin Luther King was a Republican. Back in those days both parties were so different than today. So you can't really base anything on this. I also have to say that MLK was not a racist though. He was a man of God. I think today he would be saddened by what is happening in America.
