  1. Yes, all royal daughters of a monarch were very well edcuated during the middle ages, and was taught by the best of the best teachers in the country. Mary of Scot was educated at the French court, where she reside throughout her entire childhood. With her marriage agreement in place, five-year-old Mary was sent to France in 1548 to spend the next thirteen years at the French court. Henry II had offered to guard her and raise her.

Mary had a promising childhood. While in the French court, she was a favourite. She received the best available education, and at the end of her studies, she had mastered French, Latin, Greek, Spanish, and Italian in addition to her native Scots. She also learned how to play two instruments and learned prose, poetry, horsemanship, falconry, and needlework.

Mary's handwriting was not as elaborate or beautiful as Elizabeth Tudor's, as the queen of England had been taught calligraphy by the great Roger Ascham. Mary was well-educated and a great patron of the arts. But her education was never focused on the intricacies of politics and other matters of state. She was educated to be a queen consort, not queen in her own right; her marriage to Francois was arranged by her Guise relatives to make Scotland an appendage of France. She was carefully educated in the manner of a Frenchwoman.
