  1. no, thats gayist

    lol

  2. Yes. Why should it matter if he were g*y? Plus, if NBC had mentioned that he were g*y, people would be complaining that it didn't matter & they shouldn't have said it. I think they made the right decision.

Also, Mitcham himself said it didn't matter. Would NBC mention that Michael Phelps is straight? No, so why should they mention that someone is g*y?

I think winning a medal is achievement enough and being g*y or not doesn't matter.

  3. It  was wrong

  4. NBC has made athletes' significant others a part of the coverage in the past, choosing to spotlight track athlete Sanya Richards' fiancee, a love triangle between French and Italian swimmers and Kerri Walsh's wedding ring debacle.

NBC did not mention Mitcham's orientation, nor did they show his family and partner who were in the stands.

This suggests that NBC has a double standard in regards to the relationships of g*y people.

  5. I'm confused, I don't know much about it, but is it that they mentioned Matthew Mitcham, but didn't mention he was g*y ot they totally excluded talking about him at all? If its the latter then its very wrong

  6. I thought the reason they didn't mention it was because he wasn't American. I know that might sound bad, but they were only showcasing the families from the American athletes.  They didn't show anything about the Chinese athletes or their families; likewise, none was shown about Matthew Mitcham.  It has nothing to do with him being g*y. In fact, they didn't mention anything about any athlete about if they were g*y or straight.

I don't know why it all should matter so much.

P.S. He is a great diver!

  7. Because the olympics are about one's performance in an event,

    and not their private life.

And besides, gayness has never been and will never be considered

normal.  So why even delve into that area when doing a worldwide

broadcast?   Perhaps highlighting Mitcham's gayness and/or his

relationship with another male, would have done more harm to him

    than good.

He represented his country well, and did a great job in the diving event.

    That's good enough for me.

  8. No.

Of course excluding someone's family and partner because he is a g*y is not fair.

  9. No it wasn't fair, but NBC has been doing a poor job of covering the Olympics ever since they got the gig.  I say give it back to ABC next time.

  10. there are alot of athletes who have been excluded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Ever since the "wardrobe malfunction", all the networks are in fear of putting their foot in it.

    NBC is a big chicken

  12. Usain Bolt's girlfriend was in the crowd when he won both 100m and 200m. NBC didnt interview her.

NBC is right.  It is not important. If they were married? probably. If the had kids? probably. Otherwise, its not really important. Orientation on a whole is not important.

  13. Yes, NBC did provide fair coverage.

No, it may not have been because he is g*y.

It should not be a factor in competing and therefore not news worthy.

Matthew was not in China to promote his lifestyle but rather to dive.

As far as coverage of significant others, the only ones I remember were also well known.  Like the lady sprinter whose SO was texting from training camp. Or the swimmers who use to have something going on between each other.  As far as Matthews SO goes, who knows him? Who cares?  Matthew was great and so he won the gold.  That is what the network was there to cover and it is was reported.

There were a lot of US athletes that did not even get mentioned let alone go into their family lives.

  14. It depends.  Did NBC cover the Chinese divers' families and partners?  Is Matthew Mitcham somehow more important than the other divers because he's white and not asian?

Matthew Mitcham is Australian.  Probably another reason NBC decided not to cover his s*x life.

  15. I don't think NBC did any camera shots of families unless they were from the US.

  16. i don't think NBC ever said they purposely didn't show matthew's partner just b/c matthew is g*y. i mean, someone's sexual orientation should be personal - does it really matter if he was g*y or not?? does the whole of america need to know?? he is an excellent diver, and that is all that matters to me.

  17. I knew it! Hypocritical NBC. Of course, it is not fair but in fact, it was mean and insulting to Mitcham
