  1. Napoleon's religion is a topic that many scholars have debated over the years. Napoleon basically played to the religion that was most popular with the people. In general many of the revolutionary soldiers and middle class were strongly against the church and any religion. While in Italy Napoleon threatened to invade Rome and the papal states if the pope did not turn over millions of Francs and priceless art pieces. Later when Napoleon was Emperor he lost his patience with the papacy and annexed all of the papal territory resulting in him being excommunicated.

The quote you got was from when Napoleon was in Egypt. Napoleon knew how religious the Muslims were and knew they would never accept an "infidel" as their new leader and so he pretended to convert to islam and required his soldiers to do so as well.

  2. he was christian

  3. No... Napolen was not a muslim. I think he was a christian {most probably} or jew...

And I am not a fan of Colplay!!!

  4. He was not a Muslim, he was a christian

and he said this quote i guess when he entered Egypt with his army and he was trying to become close to the Egyptians at that time by showing his respect to the Islam and its ritulas.

there was a famous incident during that time, that the french soldires entered AL-Azhar Islamic University with their horses which hurt the feelings of the Muslims in Egypt

so this incident showed to the Egyptians that what he said about respecting the Islam in the quote you wrote was not true

    hope this will help you
