  1. no it is being formed by the water cutting through the Earth

  2. No, but it has been modified by man.  There is a dam that reduces the amount of water that goes over the falls and at night they cut the water to below 20%.  The water is slowly cutting its way back from it's original place, but by controlling the water it won't move back quite as much.  In the past, when the falls were full power, I think it would cut away a foot of earth a year or something.  If they left it at full power it would be destructive to the infrastructure of homes, business etc of anything in its path.  Not only that, but every 100 years or so, they would have to move the visitors center :)

  3. yup, I sat there for about a year with a pick ax and shovel and made the thing myself.

No it is natural whichis why it's one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.

to what the girl above me said (They also cut the power down because they use it to power most of the homes in this region, and much of the USA.) hydro power...It has nothing to do with stopping the erosion.  It's because at night the power usage in homes goes up dramatically from the day, therefore they need to use more water to make more power.  can't get much cleaner than hydro (maybe soalr;) lol)

  4. No, Niagara Falls is a natural phenomena.  The Niagara River which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario falls over the Niagara Escarpment (cliff) to form the falls.

10,000 years ago the falls was located right at Lake Ontario but over the years it has slowly eaten its way back thru the rock so now its located about half way between Lake Ontario and Erie.  In another 10,000 years the falls will have chewed themselves right back to Lake Erie and most likely become a set of rapids.
