Is she just a token pick? If she is what does that mean for the status of women? Is it a step forward or just a mockery?

  1. NO.

It's common practice to pick a governor and to want someone with EXECUTIVE experience on your ticket.

  2. I'm sure being a woman was part of it, but he could have picked someone with more experience like Romney.  The trade off is this pick will definitely bring in more woman voters who may have voted for Obama.

    Just a great pick.

  3. No it was her foreign policy and economic experience….lol of coarse she was McCain is just trying to pander to the Hillary vote…won’t work though.

  4. I am not real sure but I have never heard of her until today.  Maybe he saw how everyone loves Hillary and thought it would be a cool idea.  I think McCain Obama and their running mates should have a show on MTV.  That's about where this election is headed anyway.

  5. I figure it's because she has more executive experience than McCain, Obama, and Bidden combined.  They are Legislators, which calls for a totally different set of skills and talents.  Some Presidents made the transition, like Lyndon Johnson, others couldn't, like James Buchanan.  Buchanan is, arguably, the most experienced man ever to be elected to the office, but he also ranks as possibly the worst President ever, although some feel that dubious distinction now belongs to G.W. Bush.  As a Mayor and a Governor she has actual decision making experience, and an understanding of when you can and cannot compromise if you want to get anything done, while as a mother of five she has experience dealing with the kind of personalities she'll encounter in Congress and the Senate.

  6. Yes the previous pageant winner was picked to get votes from women. But as a woman she does not deserve to be the one to break the glass ceiling that Hillary Clinton put 18 million cracks in - ONLY HILLARY DESERVES THAT! and she will get her chance in the next election. Hillary has only just begun!

  7. Yes. Just like Obama picked Biden just because he is old and white. They are trying to cover all their bases. McCain is trying to woo the Hillary voters.

  8. I believe she was picked because McCain just decided he does not want to president and this will help with his goals.

  9. Yes, she was picked because she is a woman, & of course she has other credentials that the conservative home base will love, but she brings nothing spectacular to the ticket because her boss (a.k.a. McCain) has little to less to offer Americans demanding change from Republican Rule.

  10. Clinton supporters are what we're fighting over. What better way to get them than to pick a woman. Whether she sucks or not...

    *cough*idiot*cough*

  11. Why do men always question whther a women is a 'token' pick?

Don't they realize that women have been asked that question all their lives.

  12. No she was picked because she was an "attractive" woman.

  13. He only picked her to get the Hillary undecided voters.

  14. She was picked becasue of Alaska.

Not, don't think snow - think OIL.

She was also picked becasue McC is so out of touch he thinks women these days will vote for her just becasue she's also a woman.

Oh, and, having her as a VP will keep him from getting shot.

    :)

  15. it's a mockery, yes. and yes, were sarah a "he" the vp nod would have gone to either paris hilton or brittany spears.

  16. I am sure being a woman had something to do with it.  I guess because Obama picked the democrat equivalent of McCain, McCain picked the republican equivalent of Obama.

  17. president sarah palin Let me be the first one to salute you. It is an honor, Miss alaska , ms president to vote for you mother of 5 under 18, energy goddess, pro everything and also be the first to recognize what change usa is going through,I hope pray that I would be alive and well to see you on my tv,  i dont know whether it will work starting next year. May be I can walk to the store 5 miles away and get a glimpse of you raising your hand, our lady of liberty. I wish you well and salute you today, tomarrow and forever. Please put some more oil change in my pockets. I expect gas prices to drop today because of you by another 10%. Commodity markets can hear you from Alaska.

  18. I've never even heard of her before but with the information I have at this time I would select her for President over any of the Candidates that ran in the primaries.

  19. Nope. She was picked because she is a highly qualified woman that makes Obama and Biden look like a liberal joke.

  20. Yes it's pathetic... McCain has belittled us women by thinking we will vote for him because he picked someone that wears a skirt.... They both look stupid... SHE CAN NEVER COME CLOSE TO HILLARY!

  21. the hillary supporters who are going to be so quick to vote for palin seem all about women power, however they might be missing the fact that it seems as if mccain has chosen palin based solely on her gender. quite a mockery, indeed.

  22. Obviously.

No, he picked her because of her strong stance on foreign policy, enabling of newer corporate energy relations, and tax reformation of equality for all classes. lmao get real :)

  23. No.... but How funny is it that the video of the guy screaming "leave Brittany alone!" actually got more air time (after the fact) than Obama's big speech?

  24. Sarah Palin is brilliant and articulate and, in Alaska politics, is a breath of fresh air as an alternative to their corruption epitomized by Ted Stevens "Bridge to Nowhere", She Veto'd the "Bridge" Earmark.  Now Obama, who has spent two years preventing a woman from being president, Now McCain has vividly demonstrated the difference.  Sarah Palin is no d**k Cheney!

She wants to clean up Pork Barrel spending.  That alone qualifies her by my standards.  $Millions in farm subsidies are right now going to New York Penthouse executives that aren't even farmers, they own a vacant piece of land and claim they farm.  Outrageous Pork Govt. giveaways!  That's the Democratic corruption she will attack.

  25. It was pretty obvious that the only way McCain had a chance was to pick a woman vp...

That said.. yikes... he might have given me a scare had he picked one of the many women that were available, republican, at least a little experienced in national politics, strong...  I can only think he is physically attracted to her... she is cute.  But her beliefs and policies are pretty much opposite of mine... I guess the rabid right wing might end up liking her.  Anti abortion, anti tax, anti environment....anti birth control.

  26. Definitely.McCain wants the disgruntled Hillary voters,so he brings Palin out all of a sudden. She stands for everything McCain stands for and she may be worse.

  27. McCain is seen by the right-wing conservatives of the Republican party as a "liberally prone" moderate republican.  He is also trying to snag the "Hillary" vote from the Dems who are upset that Obama got the nomination.  I think he chose Palin because she is a gun-toting, conservative woman.  Not JUST because she is a woman.  She is everything he is not.

  28. Pretty much yes. However, it does help that she is also extremely conservative. She has a lifetime membership to the NRA and is against abortion even in cases of rape...

  29. No, I'm sure it was for her vast experience governing a state with a population of about 25 for all of 2 years that did it.

  30. I'm not positive if it's the only reason, I'm very positive it's politically motivated.

  31. She may be a good Person, But has even less experience than McCain has been claiming of Obama. We need to think about the experience and qualifications of the Vice president, too. And Mcain, in my view, at 72, is more likely to keel over in office than Obama is at 47, leaving a really inexperienced person at the helm.. If something were to happen to Obama in office, however, His choice of Biden would leave a much more qualified person to take over.

She has Absolutely NO foriegn policy experience. and that is going to be a big issue in our Imediate future. I think in the long run, McCain has hurt himself with this decision, That probably does have a lot to do with trying to steal the Hillary voters. It was kind of weird how he stood there with her during her acceptance speech too, instead of letting us see how she did on her own, like he was holding her hand, or something. Obama wasnt even there when Biden gave his. It also seemd to me that there was nowhere Near the energy in the room at her acceptance, than there was for Bidens acceptance.

The democrats seemed much more positive and sure of themselves, and what they want to do, so far.
