Was Scott Kalitta's Solara funny car that tragically exploded at Raceway Park powered by a Toyota motor?

I know that the bodies that funny cars have do not necessarily mean that the same brand of motor is powering them. But was he running a Toyota motor, or was it a Chyrsler Hemi or other brand?

  1. The funny cars use an engine based on the chrysler engine. It is not anything that you would see anywhere else. Specially made engines for the drag cars. They all use the same engines with their own tweaks to them. It is not like other racing circuits. These engines producew over 5000 HP.


  2. It most likely had a big American V-8.
