"I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there," Obama told MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. "In fact, I think it will do the reverse. I think it takes pressure off the Iraqis to arrive at the sort of political accommodation that every observer believes is the ultimate solution to the problems we face there. So I am going to actively oppose the president's proposal."

  1. Obama was absolutely wrong.

    McCain was absolutely right.

    McCain/Palin '08

  2. What does obama know about war........... closes war he got to was who was going to eat the last piece of chicken............

The guy is a very good speaker............ does not making him a commander an chief

  3. Makes sense to me.  How will they ever reestablish their independence if we keep meddling.  It's called weening them off.

Granted, we never should have been there to begin with and now we have to finish the job, but that would entail backing off so they can regain their own self-governance.

  4. It is very clear that things were turning around BEFORE the surge.  The Sunni awakening had more to do with the decrease in violence than the surge did.  Of course McCain straight out lied, or was confused about the timeline of events regarding this...no big surprise there.  Oh, and Obama has been talking about a timeline for troop withdrawal since the beginning, and McCain said he knows the Iraquis and they would NEVER want a timetable....of course they do, and even President Bush is on board now with the timetable.  I guess you forgot to mention that McCain was wrong about that...and wrong about the war to begin with.  You should maybe research the issue a little before spouting this c**p.

  5. He still won't admit that the Surge worked.

  6. Obama was wrong when he said anything...or everything.

  7. Duh....the surge is working.  there is a timetable to move troops out. Iraq's government is up and running.  This all do to McCain's belief in America's ability to win and have our troops come home with honor.  Obama just wanted to cut and run.  It must be a cultural thing.

  8. No he was not wrong because....

They keep saying it worked but..if it worked they need to pull out now.

There are still car bombs every day and the bottom line is the press is to busy covering the election to tell you how much violence is still going on in Iraq.

We never should have been there in the first place.

There will always be escalated violence in the Mideast as long as American Christian fighters are there.

That’s how they see us and we need to get out and let them settle their differences.

They will not be free like American are free. Its not a priority in their culture. Most everything is driven by religion in their society and Americans have been drawn into a religious war by Iraqi’s view and a financial benefit for the powers that be here in America.
