Was This Rude?

Question

I was invited to a dinner and I commented to a lady across me how I saw her nephew at school. (We attended the same college.)

In a most mean and vicious manner she replied: "well, he didn't see you!"

How could she speak for him, if she wasn't present there?

Was this out of character to be impolite like that?

that wasn't rude of ure part it was her, she must have been offended when u said "her nephew"she must have felt old or something. dot worry about it

It was rude, as well as insensitive. People who exhibit such behavior have "issues", and pain they have not dealt with. Yet it is not an excuse to be rude to other people. You said or did nothing to deserve such a response.

I don't know her to say it was out of character.  She might just be a rude person.  Just get over it.  Hopefully you won't have to come in contact with her again.  For future reference if you do just don't mention her nephew.  h**l, don't even attempt to have a conversation with her.  Hope I helped!!!

There was obviously something else bothering that woman, perhaps related to her nephew that you didn't know about...and couldn't know about.

It was rude and uncivil when your comment was perfectly reasonable and in keeping with polite socially commentary.

Yes, it was the height of rudeness, but she probably doesn't see you as being worthy of anything better from her.  People like that are to be pitied - they couldn't even rent a clue for 5 seconds, even with all their wealth.
