  1. Yes, he was a senator from Virginia, I think. It's how the continental congress came about that created the country and he was in that and later became a senator.


  2. In the Colonial period, he was a member of Virginia's House of Burgesses (the legislature). He was the author of the Declaration BECAUSE he was a member of the Second Continental Congress. He would go on to become Vice President, then President, then after that he bacame Governor of Virginia (almost being captured by the British in the War of 1812!)
