Was Wilko's try valid?

Great performance from wilko, but was his try valid? Watching the freeze frame, it appeared to me as if his foot was in touch at the exact time he put the ball down - does anyone know the ruling on this?

the tmo gets paid for doing a proffesonal job, if he cant get it right with all that technology right in front of him he should be struck off or sent back down to the lower leauges to re learn his trade. it was a shocking decision and i feel gutted for scotland.

Absolutely not!  His foot was definitely in touch before he grounded the ball - that was quite clear from replays and stills.

The slow motion clearly showed that his riight foot was grounded out of touch before he put the ball down..so it should have been no try.

What was most astonishing was the fact that the ref called for video judgement before the try was given. Just goes to show that video evidence on close decisisions is NOT always decisive!

No. He was clearly in touch when grounding the ball. I don't know what the replay ref was looking at, but it certainly wasn't that "try".

To those who say it's a moot point...what if England win the six nations by virtue of having scored more tries? It'll matter then.

Not sure what the ruling is if his foot hit the floor at the exact same time as the ball. But I really don't think it did, much as I'd like it to have done! From the video evidence it was kind of hard to tell, but from seeing still photos (eg from Getty Images) I really think his foot went down before the ball.

england have been screwed in the last couple of years by the video ref remember ireland last year and horgans foot in touch. come on johnnyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Of course it wasn't and he should have owned up to the fact that he was in touch and also dropped the ball. All of the commentators said no try as did the rugby league commentators on Sunday evening every time the video ref had to make a decision they said 'well that's a good decision, not like yesterday our man got it right'.

The ruling is NO.

If your foot is in touch, it is not a try. It's a line out to Scotland.

But... Yes.

It was a valid try, the ref blew his whistle and awarded a try.

Of course if you look at the replay, technically it wasn't a try at all.

Who knows what the TMO was looking at, but he awarded it.

Sometimes these things go against you sometimes they go for you. Hopefully this guy will never work again. but you can't blame England for taking the points.

There is no point moaning about it.

We would agree.  Whilst his performance was superb and it's really great to have him and Jason back in the team, we were totally surprised that the try was allowed as his foot definitely appeared to be in touch when he put the ball down.
