  1. It's really hard to say it was not a scam. But the fact is I spent a whole lot of time preparing my office and my clients. You wud think that at least one of them wud have had the decency to crash in order to provide some excitement for me.

  2. It was neither:  just a general fear.

  3. It was real...to an extent. As far as computers go, it was very real. If you know anything at all about computer programming or software design, you know it was real. As someone already stated, many programs allowed for only two digits to be entered into the date field for the year number. I remember working feverishly in my own office to help my employer's west coast systems analysts and programmers bring our new Y2K Compliant software online.

  4. It was real.

  5. I don't think that it was a scam, however it was not real

  6. it may have been exploited, but it was very, very real

in another era, only 2 digits were used for year to save storeage space.  people have a hard time believing that, but they fail to understand how far computers had progressed

In the early 1990s, company managements were in a 'downsizing' frenzy, slicing staffs in half just for the 'shock value' of it, as well as cost savings

But in their quartly profit binging, they failed to address a looming problem, Y2k.  To deal with it in the early 1990s, would have been a no-brainer - tedious, but low risk.  it's only because they waited so long that it became a crisis

much code had already been solved by converting to 'client server' (windows) coding, but a lot of old programs from the 1970s was still out there - it still is, only it has been fixed

it could have been a DISASTER.  many calculations based on date, wrong

you have no idea how much your day to day existence is affected by computer calculations
