  1. I think is a celtic !!!

  2. From the early 8th century, Yougal wasn't really a town. A small area of land was occupied by monks who were hermits, (living on their own). Later on towards the start of the 9th century, the Vikings raided the monastries and round towers and stole all of their assets. The Vikings then used Youghal as a small settlement because of it's position which offered a deffensive position for them and it was accesible by sea.

  3. yea it was founded by the vikings

  4. The earliest settlements in the Youghal area were probably small religious foundations. It is likely that the Vikings established a small settlement at Youghal during the 9th century and may not have been a permanent foundation.  In 1173 a sea battle took place at the mouth of the river Blackwater when a fleet of Irish and Vikings were defeated by Normans who divided up the territory.  The town was granted a charter of incorporation in the early years of the 13th century.
