Was all of the civil war soliders photographed before going to war ?

i have discovered i'm related to a civil war soldier that died in the civil war ..i was really wanting to view a photo of him ....he served on the indiania branch the 80th infantry ..how can i obtain a photo if possiable at all ?

    No, most were not. In addition, photos and records have become lost in time. Even if he were, it would still have to have survived, and you would have to track it down.

    Any photograph, other than perhaps a photo of his unit, with a little dot being his head, the only photo will probably be a private family photo. Maybe a photo he payed for himself. Probably no official photos with a good view, if one exists at all.

  3. You might try to google him/her and or the Indiana Infantry other than that I have no clue on how you might get a photo of a relative that fought in the Civil War. For reference most photos of that era were staged, AKA, sitting or standing due to the long exposure time of the film of the day, it, the film, could not record action or movement with out being blurred.
