  1. Yes. I don't need to CNN to tell me what it's like to be "black in America", I live it every day, 24/7.

  2. Can you give us a link so that us Brits can watch it?

  3. (Raises hand)

I didn't care for it much. I wacthed probably 75% of it and while some parts were okay, the majority of it was watered down and boring.

I thought the statistics were interesting (and startling!), but beyond that....eh.....

Not sure if I'll be watching part II this evening.

  4. I was expecting a more in depth presentation of what the problems encountered by Blacks in America and some ideas for solutions.  I hope tonight's episode is better.

Brits that want to see it can find a free download on itunes under TV and CNN.

  5. I was also expecting to see someone like Alan Keyes

  6. I think I am more unimpressed by the segregation of culture and race in America.

  7. I didn't care for it.  I thought some of it was an inaccurate depiction.

I don't agree with paying kids for doing well on every test because it sets the tone for an unrealistic expectation.  What happens when those kids are in Junior High, High School, and College???  They're going to expect to be paid for doing well on a test, and life doesn't hand you money for doing what you're supposed to do.  Imagine going to your boss with a spreadsheet, and asking for your reward for doing it.  It's your job to do it, just like a kids job is to go to school and do well.

The single mother they showed had 5 kids, and was getting evicted.  I don't know many black women with that many kids!!!  I know black women with multiple kids, but 5???

Then the single black woman they showed was a Hollywood writer that's successful, and forced to date outside of her race.

I just want to know where was the middle ground on this show???  I'm a black woman that's not getting evicted, but I'm not balling out of control.  Yet I do face some adversaries very different from the adversaries of the women depicted.
