I heard of an incident around 1947 in Culver City where a ufo was seen in the sky. The military blacked out the city and turned searchlights on it and fired anti aircraft missiles for over an hour at it. This was during world war II and was seen by thousands of residents.

  1. Whoa your off by a few years. In the incident now known as The Battle of Los Angeles, the U.S. Army fired several thousand anti-aircraft shells into the air over Los Angeles, California during the night of February 24-February 25, 1942 at two stationary Unidentified Flying Objects, in which none of the targets were intercepted or damaged at all. The target was later officially determined to be a lost weather balloon. {According to article "Battle of Los Angeles" "In addition to several buildings damaged by friendly fire, three civilians were killed by the anti-aircraft fire, and another three died of heart attacks attributed to the stress of the hour-long bombardment.")
