  1. i think you should only really worry if she's not even on the chart or if your health visitor or doctor is concerned. She'll be petite too probably. As long as she's developing well and is happy, then she's fine I'm sure. My daughter was the opposite end - at one point she hit the 98th percentile! She's almost 3 and abour average now - these things level out.

    :-D

  2. My youngest was born at 6 lb 3 oz which was in that percentile, and has stayed in that exact percentile ever since.  It doesn't take away from her health.  Being as high up on the chart as possible isn't necessarily the ultimate signal of thriving.

The doctor told me that as long as she's on the chart to not even be worried, someone has to comprise that percentile in order for it to be there.  She also said not to be worried as long as she stayed on that growth curve . . . no unexpected dips.

My daughter was always as healthy as an ox, rarely ever sick, and hitting her milestones early . . . she's just petite . . . looks like a little doll.  I wouldn't have wanted her any other way

  3. How was it formeD?

  4. if she was born on that centile it's just fine! health profesionals ONLY worry if a baby/child drops below the centile they were born at, my daughter was born on the bottom centile 4lbs. she thrived and went up to the middle at around 12 months but then started loosing weight due to faddy eating but i was advised that they wouldnt interfere or see it as an issue UNLESS she dropped below the centile she was born on - which of course she didnt and now she is on the second centile at 4years old and im just told she is small built and its fine.

  5. My son is bigger than average he's on the 75th percentile for weight and height and has been that way since about 2 months. (he's 8 months now) I'm petite, but my husband isn't. I don't think anything will happen, all babies grow at different rates. As long as your doctor thinks she is gaining weight at a decent pace, then she'll be fine!

  6. don´t worry to much as long as she is healthy and thriving, she will probably always be on the small side.  My daughter was born on the 24 centile and continue to drop lower every month.  docs told me don´t worry she is just a small build.  Remember your daughter´s stomach is smaller than a walnut and it´s really how much she drinks over a week rather than at one feed.

  7. my son is on the 91st percentile for weight. he is almost 5 months and weighs 18lbs. he loves his grub!

  8. My daughter, Kaitlyn has always been tiny and didn't take much formula either. By 12 months old she didn't even get up to 8oz bottle. Don't worry about weight, as long as she is gaining weight and is healthy she'll be fine, just petite.

Kaitlyn is now 17.5 months old and is in the 5th percentile,  22 lbs (weighed her last weekend) but very healthy.

  9. My daughter has been in that percentile for weight since she was 6 months old.  She's in the 50th percentile for height.

She's 27 months old now and weighs 22 lb.

Nothing 'happened.'  I was lighter than her at her age, my husband is thin, and she was breastfed.  Those charts are based on formula fed babies.

  10. two of my kids were on the 3rd % and then faded off the bottom (height wise) some kids are just smaller then others.

i would encourage her to drink more, even an extra 1/4 to 1/2 oz per feed. i only bottle fed one kid outta four so i dont really remember the basic guidelines for the amount they drink.

  11. My daughter hovered between the 5th percentile and off the bottom of the charts for most of her infancy and early childhood.  She was a healthy baby/child -- just naturally small for her age.  She clearly takes after her parents, since both of US were petite as children. (Hubby got tall and filled out at puberty. I remained very petite through my teens.)

The doctor did keep a close eye on her weight and growth early on (had me bring her for more frequent weight checks during her toddler/preschool years, and had me keep her on whole milk for a few years after she was weaned), but agreed that she was just naturally small.

She was breastfed, so I never knew how much milk she took, but she was wetting plenty of diapers and was happy and content, so she was obviously getting enough.

She is now a teenager, and is still short for her age, but is healthy and normal in every respect.

  12. Sounds like my daughter. She is like the 75th for height and 3rd for weight, so she is a real string bean. She has never had a huge appetite. We had some tests done to make sure there were no problems and there weren't, so apparently that is just the way she is.

She is now 27 months and 23 pounds. The only problem we have is finding pants that stay up, especially now that she is potty trained and no longer has the benefit of a diaper to keep her pants up.

  13. The reason they are concerned when babies are less than a certain percentile (3rd or 5th depending on where you live) or if their height and weight are more than twenty percentiles different it is a sign that something may be wrong -its still rare that something is wrong but its worth looking into.

Generally they run some blood tests to look for metabolic problems and malnutrition.  They also look for UTIs, ear infections, cystic fibrosis, etc.

As I said problems are still rare -but its good to check.

  14. I have had 4 children those charts are a pain in the **** lol!! i used to worry all the time if my children werent average (so to speak) anyway i got some good advice and its true. Dont worry how much they weight as long as she/he is drinkin their milk and growing and not ill. My youngest son is so skinny it scares me he wont eat, he eats like a bird picks and picks but a doctor said dont worry what he eats on a daily basis look at it on a weekly basis.  He was also like this as a baby. Dont worry.I was very thin and his dad is on the tall and large side
