  1. You don't condone Barry's actions and the consequences of the action. If the blind punch was 3 inches higher then he would have smashed Staker's temple. A couple of inches lower and from a different angle then he would have smashed Staker's windpipe.

But I think we need to look at contributing that pushed him over the edge.

Defenders are known to SCRAG players behind the play. Scragging essentially means:

    1) hanging on, jumper pulling

    2) hitting, poking

    3) pinching

    4) Nipple cripple :-))

    5) General nuisance

Umpires are not picking it up.

Frustration comes in and Barry exploded.

Do you then blame the umpire for allowing the scragging to go on unpunished that it pushes a player to this extent?

While Barry must take full responsibilities for his action, I think Staker (any other defender) knew the risks of scragging and the umpire had the responsibility to make sure there's an even contest the majority of the time.

  2. no he was not provoked on the tv footage he hit him twice

he hit him once with a back hander, the after he realised the ball had gone he turned around and punched him again for no reason, and the other guy never even saw it coming

he is a coward and bully

  3. a big NO to me staker wasn't doing anything wrong and didn't even see it coming

  4. Any nitwit would know many things such as it is only a game of football and that a "thug" and gee it is great to know that people in here really know the true Barry Hall on and off the field, are so knowledgable to make comments like these. We are all in here to discuss football and to discuss the real issues of the game. was Barry provoked, as someone who trained with him in the early days at St Kilda I would have to say he would have been provoked.

I would love to discuss the real points behind this Barry Hall issue but it is obvious some people are not willing to look at it properly.

    1. Should the suspension start at the end of his injury, most likely yes but the AFL has not thought so, so it has not happened.

    2. Is Barry Hall a "thug" not if you watch what was happening to him before the incident. There is tagging and then there is tagging, what Staker did would also see him in court for assult and most likely sexual assult. we haven't heard what Staker did because and I am going to be an Aussie on this being a man means Big Bad Bazza ain't gonna speak out against Staker. Being a "Thug" is a lot different than reacting to being provoked.

    3. Staker and his parents are still provoking Barry and his family is this right? No.Should they face the AFL tribunal or the civil court? More than likely.

This is a good question and an equally fair sentiment on your behalf, Barry may be known for violence but he is also known to be violent after just provocation.

  5. he wasn't provoked, the ump even said in the hearing that they were preparing for the next contest as the ball was about to be put back in the Swans forward line

  6. He is a thug plain and simple...he cant handle being tagged, any nitwit could see that and any nitwit who has followed footy would know Hall hates being tagged.

  7. No.

He is just a bully thug that must have his own way.

The other Sydney players must feel embarrassed having him in the team.

  8. cuz hes dads a boxing coach and he was brought up boxing. even if he was provoked, me did the wrong thing.

  9. Staker was all over him

    and Barry reacted

  10. Staker looked as surprised as anyone when Barry hit him. Before the hit Hall was elbowing him and Staker was standing there with a look on his face that said "What the h**l am I doing wrong" so in answer to your question no.

Then again why would someone do that for nothing, but god knows what goes through Bazza's head.

  11. No. He was not provoked.

Anyone who thinks so is showing his/her ignorance of A/R football.

  12. Of course he was.

Barry just can't handle being tagged, his immaturity and anger has caused him 7 weeks.

But on the other hand... Once Barry pushed Staker, Staker should of got the picture that if he persisted, something would happen.

I think that both of these men are to blame...

  13. He was provoked but he is every game. He just had a brain explosion.

I don't know what all the fuss was about - I have seen worse in an U/18 Ainslie Queanbeyan game and the umpires did nothing.

Apparently, all the Vics were cheering Barry on - it was only a West Coast player. Their eyes are rolling around in there heads from all the drugs anyway so its difficult to see if the punch actually hurt him.

  14. No matter how much people might want to believe it to be otherwise,  the end,  in no way,  justifies the means.  As a forward,  if a backman grabbing your jumper means you're gonna lose it,  then play another position or sport.

  15. Yeah, must get frustrating being tagged.. I did watch the game and bout 30secs before hall lost it, him and staker were wresting on the ground.. I know there's no excuse for that behaviour (blah blah) but I can understand having "a moment" cos someones constantly in your space..

  16. If anything, Staker might also play in the spirit of the game next time and not inappropriately harass the player he is marking. Sometimes it just takes someone to politely point that out, as Hall has done. Now he knows not to do it again.

  17. I agree.

I have coached and nobody does that thing without provocation.

But to Bazza's credit he has taken the blame, copped it on the chin and is ready to move on.

    Why don't supporter's.

In my day and league the so called punch was only a tap compared to what I've seen back in the 70's.

  18. If i was getting held and bumped i would want to do something about it aswell... maybe hall has a bit of a temper... the only reason he took the blame is because he has nothing to fight against it... i think that staker was just doing the normal backman thing and holding him by then back of the shirt and mayb giving him a few bumps...

  19. Only in the same way that 351 other AFL players are provoked every weekend.  If a bit of push, shove, grappling or holding makes you snap like that, then maybe you should get out of the game.  Chris Judd cops it sweet week in & week out, yet he manages to keep himself composed.

  20. No.

Anyone who believes that must be a halfwit. If anyone reacts in such a way to a bit of body jostling should give the game away.

He just proved he is still a dim-witted thug.

  21. No, Hall so was not provoked! Hall is just a big loser and does it for the fun of it and to get attention.
