  1. No.

  2. Nope.

  3. no, but it is the second city

  4. No

  5. No, never.

  6. No,Always been London.

  7. The United Kingdom has only existed since 1707 and since London was the capital of England before that date, it has always been the capital of the United Kingdom.  The notion of a "capital city" is relatively modern and in Norman times, Winchester was regarded as the most important city of its day, being the "seat of Government".  The seat of government has moved around quite a bit over the years but I don't think that Birmingham ever held the torch.

  8. London has always been the capital city, but for a time during world war ii the government was moved to Birmingham for reasons of personnel safety. this was at the height of the German bombing of London.

  9. Coventry should have been, Cov the only reason the country even had any weapons and transport during the second world war. =]

  10. Birmingham is called the second city of England, it's never been capital.!!!

  11. No, never. Before the Industrial Revolution Birmingham was a pretty insignificant place.

Apart from London I think Winchester was the only place that could have been called the capital (of England, not the UK obviously).
