Question:

Was choosing Palin a sign of panic?

Sure, the polls are close, but if you look at the actual electoral map, it looks like Obama is going to win a lopsided victory and the Democrats will gain a veto-proof majority in the Senate. Did the Republicans abandon the experience argument because their only hope was mass defections among Democratic women?

  1. Yes...I think it was.  I think they waited to see who Obama was going to pick and had he chosen Hilary Clinton, Palin wouldn't have been chosen.  I think it's their attempt to lure in Clinton voters who are upset over her not being chosen as the VP on the ticket. I don't know how well it will work but I guess we shall see come November.

  2. yes

  3. YES YES YES.

  4. Yes, the left is clearly panicking over this.  They've already brought out a nonsense "Palin covered for her daughter's pregnancy" vicious rumor.  If that's not panic, I don't know what is.

  5. No. It was a sign of stupidity.

  6. Yeah, you've figured it all out. <<EXTREME SARCASM>>

  7. Brilliant move on his part.  Obama pooped his pants.

  8. People are making way too much out of this. McCain wanted to shock people so they would forget how good Senator Obama is looking as President. Also, he has always had poor judgment and a loose and indiscriminate horn (at least mentally). Unfortunately for him, the weather has trumped his doxy in the media.

I suspect that during the convention, Palin will come up with a sob story that will prevent her running after all. The RNC doesn't want her. The criminal ethics violations she is being investigated for (Troopergate)  will be the last nail in the Bush/McCain campaign's coffin. So look for an actual candidate that will draw votes. As it is now, people with the Klan mentality will be staying home on election day, and that will hurt McSame even worse.

  9. Anyone, Democrat or Republican, who thinks that Governor Palin was chosen "simply" because she's a woman deserves to have their butts handed to them, as Senator Biden will in the VP debate.

Gov. Palin has a history of attacking establishment figures head-on, and defeating them. The best place outside of D.C. in which to do this is Alaska, where politics have become more calcified than almost anywhere else in the country. Her political resume includes sweeping out both a mayor and a governor in serious reform bids each time. If John McCain's only message this year was "reform in Washington", then Palin would be the perfect running mate.

As far as shoring up his evangelical base, as many have noted that McCain needs to do, Palin is also an excellent choice. She's a credible pro-life and pro-family feminist, who was given the choice to terminate her last pregnancy when it was discovered that her son would be born with Down Syndrome. Although 9/10's of women elect to have an abortion in those cases, Palin kept her child, which has been an inspiration to women and families across the country.

As far as her symbolic appeal goes, she represents far more than just women in the GOP. She, as well as Governor Jindal of Louisiana and even Governor Pawlenty of Minnesota, represents a new breed of Republican in this country. They are the next generation, free of any taint from Washington and especially President Bush. They remind us that "the future" doesn't just belong to the Democrats, but to all Americans.

  10. Nope, it was a sign of sheer brilliance.

But don't let that stop you lefties from squawking over it, please. Your knee-jerk reactions are providing more giggles than a week-long comedy festival!

  11. No.  As an independent who has not decided yet, it was a bold move.  McCain did it to grab the media's attention and he has succeeded.  And also, for you information, the electoral college is basically tied, my dear.

  12. Not a sign of panic.

It was a sign of trying to be a maverick again.

She got rid of the bridge to nowhere.

Now he wants her to get rid of Obama's bridge to the White House.

  13. McCain lost his experience trump card

    against Obama by selecting Palin.

I roll my eyes about some people saying that she has more executive

experience than Obama,Biden, and McCain. My response is..."Well...Bush

has executive experience as the governor of the 2nd largest

state,Texas....look at how the experience has helped us.....Yeah,,it

hasn't helped us" I made that rebuttal to somebody.

I think that McCain's running mate pick has not only thrown out his

most effective argument against Obama but has handed him the election.

a lot of independents aren't going to go for that. Independents are

the ones that tend to make the difference.

They are not going to want a 44 year old woman with no foreign policy

experience to be second in command, knowing that a 72 yr old president

with history of health problems can likely die in office which result

    in her being president.

At least with Obama if something bad happens to him, Joe Biden has the

foreign policy experience to take over. I realize more and more that

Joe Biden was the perfect pick for Obama because it helps solve the

foreign policy experience problem. Biden would serve as strong 2nd in

command and can be a highly effective advisor for Obama on foreign

policy matters. Now with McCain's pick of Palin, the inexperience

argument is neutralized. McCain comes off looking like a hypocrite

with bad judgment as well as pandering to women voters(especially the

disgruntled Hillary supporters) and the religious right.

also...if Obama had a problem with racism in the Democratic Party,

then McCain has evened that out with his pick of Palin because there

could be sexism in the Republican Party. If there are white voters

that are are racist that decide to vote for McCain because Obama is

half black, then there will be male voters that decide to vote for

Obama because Palin is a woman.

  14. The elctoral map is almost exactly even, and that is when you give Obama all the big swing states. What are you talking about?

  15. Actually, I think the Republicans brought Palin on board to encourage debate about lack of experience. The subject could've been brushed off by the media and the people. But now it'll remain front and center.

The debate will be that you can have the Republican candidate with no experience only a heart beat away from the presidency OR you can have the Democratic candidate with no experience just a vote away.

Palin will have an opportunity to learn whilst serving in the background as veep..

  16. judging by the democrat reaction, absolutely!

  17. Choosing Palin was a brilliant move on McCain's part. She will garner him the female vote, bolster his less than inspiring conservatism, and add needed youth and managerial experience to his campaign. Not to mention guys think she's hot! McCain/Palin is a shoo in for the Presidency. Get your box of hankies ready.

  18. It was a sign of panic for the Democrats.

Just when they thought they had Hilllary's supporters smacked down and back toeing the line, the Republicans put a woman in as VP.

Democratic women were suppose to buy the stance that even if the Dems didn't nominate or pick a woman as VP, they still support women more than any one else.

  19. No.  Obama chose Biden to get the white blue collar votes. And she has executive experience.  What the heck does Obama have.  I'll wait for a response.   Tick.  Tock. Tick. Tock.

  20. Yes, for Obama. I don't think I've ever seen this much panic from the Obama supporters on here. Their first impulse has been to trash Palin for lack of experience (ironic isn't it?). Now libs are starting to research her and find out how amazing her record is, they are scared. She is the only one (on BOTH sides) that is not a Washington insider. Her record shows her to be honest, whether fighting dems or reps. Yep, Obama is in serious trouble.

Add: Many people are harping about this pick taking away McCain's trump card: Obama's lack of experience. However, it also took away Obama's mantra, CHANGE! Who can really claim the change element now? The team with two Washington insiders or the team that includes a fresh face?

  21. No. I don't agree.  I think it was a sign of confidence.

  22. Choosing Palin was just another very good example of how totally out of touch Loose Lips Grampy McSame is.

AND just for the record Palin was FOR the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it.

  23. No. I think it was brilliant on McCain's part.

In fact I think McCain blindsided Obama.

Everyone is talking about Palin not Obama's speech.

And no again to your question about experience.

Palin has the qualifications looked for in a Vice president.

Obama does not have  them to be president.

  24. Yes. It was a move of total desperation. And since she is being investigated for corruption and fraud in her own state, the Dems will, I hope, use the ammunition she's just handing to them about her unfitness for the job as aggressively as the Republicans have used red herrings to try to derail Obama's campaign.

  25. Yes.  He took a gamble and it isn't paying off.

  26. Yes it was.

Look at all the not so beautiful educated experienced women in the republican party, he could have picked from.

Granted beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

It appears that this was his main point of interest.

  27. Desperation.

This choice was wildy reckless and could end up costing him the election.

  28. A big shock too...What?..sarah who?Thats the reaction most ppl get
