  1. It's obvious that the U. S. economy was stronger in the 50's and early 60's simply due to the fact that a family could not only survive, but flourish on a single income. For the last thirty years it's been almost impossible for a middle class family to get by without both the husband and wife holding down a full time job. If you examine the difference between the cost of living in the fifties, and what it costs now. Then compare that to the minimum wage then, and now, I'm pretty sure that you'll find that the cost of living has increased by far more than the minimum wage. In fact I think you'd be surprised at the variation if you just went back twenty years. Pay levels have not grown at the same rate as costs over the years. Also the economy isn't uniform throughout the U. S. I used to live in Detroit, and the economy wasn't just depressed, it was suicidal. I also lived in Houston when Enron went belly up. Ten thousand people hit the job market overnight, and that plays h**l with the economy of an area.

  2. 90's were pretty great 50's were great. late 90's is when the bubble burst

  3. I would have to say 50's those were the good ol' days.

wwII was over, and america was at its best. in my opinion.

we had Pittsburg steal, Texas oil,  and Wal-mart wasn't anything.

  4. 50's, 90's, and 80's. In that order.

  5. 90's  and while the DJIA, NYSE, NASDAQ, S&P500, and other marked metrics may report a larger value and volume now than in the 90's; you should judge an economy by the poorest person's standard of living, not the richests - or at least go with the mode.

Unemployment and the rate of inflation were lowest in the nineties.
