Was football more popular when it used to not be about money so much as it is now?

just wanted to know cause ive only become involved with football couple of years ago!

football is in danger of being industrialized

if that happens i'll switch to rugby there's less money there and where there's money there's never going to be loyalty

Hard to say, i think its always been popular, is still popular and will always be popular, regardless of whatever money comes into the game, there will always be people who lose interest for whatever reasons and people who will become interested, so i suppose it evens out really.

It has always been popular but  only got the media recognition it deserved in the last fifteen years.

No its more popular now as there is more media exposure. BUT and thats a big but going watching your team was so much easier and accessable to the masses as it was much more affordable.
