  1. nope, I think that theory mostly came from the bible. Copernicus was the first to scientifically prove that the sun was the center and then years later galileo reexamined his idea.

  2. probably the most notable occurance regarding helio-centrism and Galileo was there was a religious scholar that was also a famous astronomer who basically said "If the Earth goes around the Sun, it would sure be easy to prove!"  and Galileo, a real nasty piece of work by all accounts, said "okay" and proved it.

  3. No he founded "heliocentrism", the idea that the sun is the center of the universe.

  4. Quite the contrary. He argued that the earth revolved around the sun, and the Catholic Church condemned him to home imprisonment for life on account of that. But by the time he died about 9 years later, there were hardly any educated people who still disagreed with him, much to the embarrassment of the church.

(However, the church apologized just a little more than 300 years later.)

  5. Ptolemy advanced the concept that the earth was the center of the universe by devising a system explaining things like retrograde planetary motion using a complex system of wheels within wheels.  Aristarchus, Copernicus, and Galileo were pioneers in developing the theory that the sun is the center of the solar system instead.

  6. no, an earlier astronomer suggested it, but it was ignored until Galileo came about and resuggested it

  7. no,geocenteric was offered by Otlimous.

400 yrs before galileo, Aboo Reihane Biroony offered the heleocenteric in his book, and Galileo find it again .and i guess church burned kooper nick for this ,too(i`m not sure)

  8. No, no, no.  Galileo believed the SUN was the center of the universe, and he was labled a heretic for doing so.  He was even banished.  People couldn't believe the sun was the center of the universe, because they thought God would make earth the center, so the suggestion of anything else was unbelievable to them.
