Was going for a run for fun unheard of in the 1970'?

im tying in a song from forest Gump to the movie and i remember my teacher said something about people didn't run for fun back then and that when Forest was running in the movie it was an event in history with running but there was no forest gump, since he didn't exist.

  1. people ran in the 1970s, I did, it just hadnt taken off yet


  2. I'm sure people ran for fun back then. I know my high school's Cross Country team was strong and going through out the '70's, so I'm sure that running wasn't unheard of. But, I suspect that it wasn't as "huge" as it is today. good question.
