  1. "such little nails hold the hinges of history"

as an example...Principe, the Serb student radical that shot Franz Ferdinand and touched off WW1? That day in Sarajevo, he and two friends threw a homemade grenade at the Prince's car. It s was a dud, and the driver did what drivers even today are taught to do,,,he beat feet and cleared the area, turned left, right left sped around and then came to a stop, realizing he was lost.

Principe and his friends ran off and then started walking home, muttering about poor quality fuses and explosives when they turned the corner, and what was there, stopped dead in front of them but the Archduke of Austria and Princess Sophie.

Well, you know the rest........WW1, 10 million dead, the fall of Imperial Germany and the rise of n**i Germany, the fall of Imperial Russia and the rise of the Soviet Union; WW2 and 20 million dead;  the Cold War and Korea and Vietnam; the fall of the Ottoman Empire amid the rise of Iran Iraq Palestine/Israel.ALL because some punk kid got lucky that day in Sarajevo.

Would WW1 have happened if Principe had turned left when he turned right? Who knows......

  2. I don't believe there is any way that history is "supposed" to happen.  We are not puppets in G-d's play.

  3. History was no accident.  The truth is that God has a plan for everyone.   Our destiny lies withing His truth and it's up to us to accept it or reject it.  That's why we were given free wills.

  4. Neither. It was a serious of events that just happened but war or the collapse of an empire does not simply happen by accident either.

  5. A prevailing theory is that socioeconomic pressures tend to steer history in a particular direction. This means there is no "indispensable person" without whom history could not have unfolded; kill Hitler and the pressures of the time would simply produce another power-hungry anti-Semitic dictator.

  6. The way things are today are not by just mere coincidence. That is why people say the past repeats itself. But to think there is a plan that has been unfolding for thousands of years is a little far-fetched. Besides, history doesn't work out for everyone.

  7. Free will, socioeconomic pressures, blind cataclysism of nature, and survival of the fittest is the only observable events 'prompting' history.  To believe that there is a preordained destiny for every person is not rational.
