Was in usa in1988 overstay by 5 months?

went back in 1998 no problem getting in.i am applying for a holiday visa will the fact that i went back in 98 make it difficult to get a visa thanks

If you overstayed in 88 and were able to obtain another visa in 98, then you should not have any problem now.  The fact that you went back and did not get deported is what matters, because if you get deported you will be permanently banned from re-entering the U.S.  Good luck
