people remember the ball that got past Buckner and usually believe that is why the Sox lost that series. Knight scored the winning run on mookie wilson's hit..But don't you think it couldve been avioided if Bob Stanley didnt throw that wild pitch. Mitchell scored from third on it and Knight went to second, and wilson drove in Knight on the ball that got past Buckner. Say Stanley doesnt throw the wild pitch, could the series have been different?? I think so

  1. I'd say it was the guys in the dugout trying to do the crossword puzzle bugging Bucker for a 5 letter word for fruit.

  2. Did you get unfrozen just a few days ago or have you realized that this ended awhile ago...i mean this is a 25 year old question

  3. It's pretty routine grounder to s***w up. But it's for sure not his fault they lost game 7.

  4. Buckner deserves the blame for Game 6.  No question about it.  It went right through his legs...and it was not a bullet.

  5. we should be past this by now but...

Stanley didn't cover first so Buckner had to rush and in the process he missed the ball... it was no one's "fault" it could have happened to anyone... just more bad luck for the Red Sox at the time.

Calvin Schiralidi was in when the game went south, and it was already outta control by the time Stanley got in... Schiraldi go the first 2 outs and they were one strike away and it all went south from there.... he is responsiable for all the baserunners.

So.. its no one's clearcut fault... it was a team effort... win as a team, lose as a team.

  6. Finally someone else who realizes that is wasn't all Buckner's fault. Without getting into every detail of the game, the Sox choked. The game was already tied at that point after 3 hits in a row and a wild pitch (as you mentioned) by Stanley, so even if he didn't s***w up that play, who knows what would have happened in the 11th, 12th, etc inning.

Not to mention they had a chance to win it in game 7 anyway.

  7. good god, man.

that was 22 years ago.  it was the longest night of my life, just ahead of bucky dent's 1978 winning homer to end the sox' season.

yes it was stanley's fault.  one pitch away, my ar$$.

  8. Who cares. Both that series and the curse are over.

  9. Lol who gives a c**p GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  10. It was manger's John McNamara's fault for leaving a hobbled Buckner in the game in the first place.

In all. Had the Red Sox won game 7 which they had the lead in going into the 6th inning only for the Mets to rally on them yet again, game six really wouldn't have hurt so much.
