Question:

Was it a bigger mistake by the Celtics or a bigger win for the Hornets to get James Posey?

James Posey was a big part in the Celtics historic regular season turnaround and their title run through the playoffs. They weren't able to keep him to stay there and he signed a good deal with the Hornets. Do you think that this helps the Hornets get over the top in the West? This makes their bench a lot more solid.

  1. Bigger win. The mistake the Celtics made was cleared up a bit by the cap space they received.

  2. Posey might actually start. I don't think Mo Pete is going to start at the 2 over him...Posey is a lot better a defender and with Peja, they need the help on defense.

But it does make the bench stronger...Mo Pete, Bonzi, Pargo.

I love the move for NO. A strong, veteran presence with two titles and a winning, defensive minded, team orientated mindset. Does it put them on top of the West? I'm not sure. I think they have a great chance of winning the West. Kobe vs. Posey is a lot better than Kobe vs. Mo Pete, that's for sure. I think that makes the match-ups a lot better for NO.

As for the C's...they'll miss him. The'll miss him a lot. Sure, he came off the bench, but he was a huge part of the bench. His defense on a defensive-oriented squad will be greatly missed. A lot of people don't realize how important a strong bench player is...I didn't think the C's would repeat, just because so many teams are getting stronger...I really don't think they will now...

Also, I think this trade is going to make LA make a deal for Artest.

  3. Posey was a key player during the championship run, but to say that they won it all because of him is really not all true. There's no question that he made a big impact in the playoffs, but that doesn't mean that he's not replaceable. They drafted two other players that essentially can play his position in JR Giddens and Bill Walker and Tony Allen was resigned. They can absolutely win it all next year with the roster that they have and they may have one more run in them after that.

  4. it should help a lot when they need someone to score

  5. It wasnt a huge mistake for the Celtics, Posey got over-paid....but it was definetly a BIG win for the Hornets in the close future...but they are going to hate that big contract when they cant afford to resign key players on their team, in the future

  6. its a loss for both because boston lost a great bench player who can shoot and play defense but the hornets gave a 31 year old a 4 year contract jus look at how that works out ie; danyell marshall and damon jones for the cavs

  7. Posey will be miss in Boston but I think that NO made a mistake.  The guy's performace is on the downside.  He'll give NO one or maybe at most two good years.

Boston can still find help for their bench.  To say Boston won because of him is ridiculous.  He helped some but there was games where Powe made bigger contribution or House or Cassal or even PJ Brown.  I'm sure Boston will continue to find these kind of help off their bench.  I can't say if they will repeat or not.  No one can.  NO isn't going to just win the NBA Final just because they sign Posey.  It'll be a long season and Boston will find someone coming off the bench.
