  1. For Brett it would be better to go to the Vikings.  They are a better team and he wouldn't have to learn a new playbook.

For the Packers the Jets were better.  Farve on the Vikings means both teams would beat up on the Lions and Bears and battle it out for the division title.  Brett screwed them with his will I or wont I retire every year so I don't think they were going to help him out any after that.  They obviously don't want to do something that benefits their rival either.  You don't see the Yankees and Red Sox working together.  They will go out of their way to sign someone they don't need just because the other team does.

  2. Of course Minnesota. For 2 reasons, all they need is a QB to become an sure bet for the playoffs and possibly go all the way plus he would have been a great mentor for Jackson. However, in saying all that, it really doesn't matter because it's not going to happen.

  3. Minnesota would have been a mistake NO WEST COAST OFFENSE.

The JETS have the best situation for Favre so it's not going to be that bad.

  4. well they were not going to trade him to the same division as the packers

  5. The Packers were afraid that if Favre went to the Vikings that they would be embarrassed by him and the team, so they decided to send him to the Jet's in the other division.

  6. I think he's better off with the Jets, but it doesn't make sense that they didn't want him in Minnesota.

They didn't want him in Minnesota because they don't want him to come back to Green Bay and tear them apart. But at the same time they don't want to keep him on the team.

Bottom line, hes too good to play against but not good enough to keep?

  7. Depends on who you are:

Favre said he wanted to go somewhere where he would have another shot at the SB.  He also has a history with many Vikings players and coaches.  Vikings was his first choice and obviously would have been better for him than the Jets, where he doesn't know anyone, is overwhelmed by the playbook and is trying to get the coach to minimize it, and the Jets just aren't the threat the Vikings are.

If you're GB, the last place you want him to go to is a divisional arch-rival, either the Vikings or the Bears.  In fact, they didn't want him in the NFC at all and didn't really give the Bucs an opportunity to deal for him.  GB is very happy to see Favre in the AFC with a team that's tanked for some time now.

[Aside to Silky: The Viking do play a form of the West Coast Defense, and since Favre played them 2 times a year, at least, for 16 years, he's quite familiar with it.  See http://www.mnsportscentral.com/community... and other threads on the Vikings site.  Here's another  example: "The Minnesota Vikings moved up to draft Booty in the fifth round on Sunday, adding a player already familiar with their West Coast offense after five years under Trojans coach Pete Carrol." http://www.nfl.com]

[Aside to Mars: The contract GB signed with the Jets specifically states the Jets cannot retrade him to the Vikings.   Of course GB doesn't want him in Minnesota.  Vikings are playoff material again this year and if you're GB, do you want to lose two games to the Vikes, which is a guarantee if Farve is there?  The reason he's not in GB is the organization drafted and planned a team around Rodgers after Favre retired, not that he's not good enough.  Recruiting specific talent for a QB costs a lot in time, money, and draft choices.  They had to do what they had to do...they just handled it very poorly in the press.]

[Aside to Fondy: One thing's for sure.  Brett's presence in NYC is sure taking the media heat off of Eli Manning.  Eli, who has been criticized and condemned by the NY media for years, now gets to fly under the radar with Favre in town.  That's great for the Giants, but like you said, not so great for Favre when he starts making mistakes.  Being the vet that he is, perhaps he can deal with it ok, but the NY press is very, very different than the Green Bay Gazette.  I absolutely agree with you.]

  8. Good idea for who?

  9. Well, I don't think Packers want to see Favre end up playing for their divisional rivals.. so They traded favre to Jets..

  10. After what he pulled with the Packers,it's good that he's gone to the Jets. After a few bad games, the Noo Yawk press will give him all the humble pie he will care to eat - and lots more!

  11. Minnesota is not going from 2 of 3 plays running to 2 of 3 plays passing, they would suck. The only good reciever on there team is Bernard Berrian, and A.P will be amazing this year, the Vikings would have SUCKED if they got him, A.P would never get to rush.
