Looking at the past, the two nations have had issues with each other since the break up of the USSR.

All former Soviet republics have a problem with Russia...War with Georgia happened by a mere tip of the scales in S.Ossetia.

It's been a problem longer than that.

There's a real hatred between these two peoples on a level similar to that of the white/black problem in the US, only more open.
