Was it recently reported that Ireland discovered oil of its west coast?

I saw it mentioned on the RTE program the Panel but haven't heard much about it since! Does anyone have any more information or insight into this?

  1. Yes, but as someone said,the situation is similar to that of the oil in the arctic circle - claimed by a few countries. Ownership is always sketchy when it is at sea. It will likely wind up being spilt.


  2. Actually they discovered it in the '70s and have been extracting it and pumping it around Ireland since then!

    Unfortunately it won't stop the oil crises as there isn't much and is due to run out in 13 to 14 years.

  3. It was found near the end of last year. Last I heard, several countries were trying to claim to it for themselves (no surprise)

    your right it was but i think there may be a problem drilling for it if i heard right i do hope not
