  1. If you love the instrument and truly want to learn it, you should have no problems.

  2. Well, a brief intro, I'm a professional keyboardist and roughly pro violin player. i started it at 16. violin for me was not that hard, just a little love and passion and endless trials to get the right tune. watch professionals, watch their hands movements and work well your bow movement, it's the key.  In general, it was funny and a little hard. In specific situations like exams, it was really difficult to concentrate but it was fantastic when i just sing the melody and play it simultaneously, it's like you auto-correct your self.

    Good luck.

  3. I taught myself to play Southern old-time fiddle by ear (with help from some fiddle-playing friends).  I did not take formal lessons, and there were no exams to prepare for.

It was made easier by the fact that I already played guitar, banjo and mandolin and already knew a lot of the tunes on those other instruments.

Even so, it was a challenge, learning to get a good clear tone, to play consistently in tune, and (most challenging) to learn the bowing patterns and rhythms to make my playing sound driving and rhythmic as square dance music should sound.

Stil, I have to say that learning the fiddle is totally worth all the effort.  Its my favorite instrument (although banjo runs a close second).

  4. I started playing at age 9. that was 8 years ago. I'm getting pretty good by now, and this I must tell you. The violin is the hardest, most rewarding instrument ever invented. I'm not just trying to make all of my efforts seem better than anyone elses. I have actually looked into this. Even people who never played the instrument agree. This is the HARDEST instrument in the world. It's followed closely by French Horn (a beautiful instrument).

What's so hard about it? Well, first of all, you have to keep your bow straight. This is no longer a challenge for me. But still...

The fingering must be perfect or it will be out of tune. There are no frets on the violin fingerboard.

The movement is very often very very very fast, just because the nature of the instrument when used in fiddling is very aggressive but fun.

I love the violin. I would not trade my violin for anything. Not a thing. I never took exams, but I did have recitals (although I wasn't graded on it or anything). Not too hard. Just practice like crazy till you have your piece nearly memorized and then relax when you get up there. Remember the recital is only enjoyable for the parents. Everyone else HATES IT!!!!!!!!

  5. Okay, I picked up on the violin quiet easily.

But when preparing for auditions or exams or things of the sort, I tend to put it off till a week ahead and then cram all week.

I usually make a great chair, but its not a habbit I suggest.

    Perfect pracice make perfect!!

  6. No, It was horrible ....

I now play football instead ...
