  1. you realize its the same team right

they didnt disband the expos and create the nationals out of thin air

same poor management as in montreal, same boneheaded mistakes as in montreal..

the expos final game had 32,000 fans in attendance. the nationals first game in DC had 45,000 fans..financially it was the best move the franchise could make. DC is a big market for baseball and the team was smart to go there. it has nothing to do with which franchise had better farm systems. they are the same

  2. They are better off in D.C because they were losing more and more fans in Montreal...But yea they aren't a good franchise because they don't spend money to keep good players like Vladimir Guerrero,Alfonso Soriano,Pedro Martinez,Moises Alou to name a few.

  3. Yes, Olympic Stadium was terrible for the players. Nearly the same management still controls the Nationals.

  4. Yeah it was a good move. Attendance is close to 32k per game, which is up from 12k in Montreal. While the team is worse, they do have a few players who are solid in Zimmerman and Chad Cordero (injured). Also, the nationals are in a long rebuilding phase, that started with the new stadium. Also to say that they do nothing is sort of a nieve comment. Look at how many players have gotten hurt for them this year. They are like the Braves, just the players are a bit lower quality. With out injuries, they would probably have 5-10 more wins, which puts them 10 out of the NL East and not 20. While their offense is lacking, their starting pitching is getting decent, and it's a matter a year or two before they start to compete.

The problem is the ownership and management, who decided it would be a good idea to bring guys in based on potential rather than performance. Examples are...

(Langerhans, Milledge, Dukes, Kearns, Lopez, Young, Johnson...and this is just offense)

  5. I agree.

They let the one good player they had, Soriano, get traded

What is the point of moving to a baseball city if the franchise is stinky!

  6. Even though the Nationals are doing bad, the attendance is still way higher than in Montreal.  In Montreal you couldn't even get 10,000 fans a night & the Nationals for a last place team, have a decent attendance record

  7. DC is a fair sized market, so they should be OK. I mean, they'll never be the Red Sox or Yankees, but they can definitely be a playoff team every 4 or 5 years. And, get into the playoffs, and it's a roll of the dice. I still think they should have named the new team the Senators, in honor of all those years of baseball fans in DC.
