Was my mom asking about a birth control shot?

I went to the doctor today for a check up and the said I have shots due, so for a while my mom and my doctor conversed about the shots and then my mom asked how old you have to be to get a 'pct' 'tcp' or 'cpt' shot, I can't remember the initials but I do remember a p and maybe a c, anyway the doctor said 16. So I asked my mom what the shot was, and she said to mind my business.

I really want to know what it is, I was thinking birth control, since I'm about to start highschool she probably thinks I will become sexually active.

Help.

PS. I'm 14.

  1. It was probably the HPV shot, it is a vaccine against cervical cancer and young girls can get it.

  2. could it have been your HPV shot? Thats the gardisill shot thats to keep you from getting some type of cancers.

You get a total of three all together, My grand daughter just had #2. Its not pain full

    Be one more,,

  3. might be the hpv shot. it protects against some forms of cervical cancer. it has a common name . guardisil. It sounds like it giving you age and all.

  4. Ok, here's how you deal with this.

    1) Call your doctor.

    2) Tell him that you want to know about the shot s/he and your mother were speaking about and that you want to learn more about it to decide whether or not you need it.

    Your doctor will tell you.

  5. Birth Control doesn't come in shots its pills, every teen has to get that shot, I remember getting mine my freshmen year.  And tell your mom it was your business because the shot is going into your body.

  6. Cervical Cancer Shot

  7. she could have been asking about the depo provera shot (DMPA) and it is a birth control shot, they can start it as young as 12 years but they usually give it when you're a little older because of the side effects. the shot is given every 3 months (12 weeks) and the biggest side effect is loss of bone density if used more than 2 years which can lead to early osteoperosis when you get older, so if you go on it you have to take a calcium supplement.  because of the loss of bone density they usually don't want to start it in very young girls.  but when you go to the doctor ask what they are giving you because you have the right to know .

  8. The only birth control shot I know of is Depo-Provera.

Maybe she was asking about the Hepatitis shot?

Maybe she was talking about the DTaP?  Its for Diptheria, Tenanus and acellular Pertussis.
