I applied for affordable housing and was put in a waiting list of about 1 year. Now about 9 months later I get the call to apply. When I first put myself on the waiting list the minimum income requirement was about $12,000. I called there and now the minimum income is $20,000 and I don't make it since my income is about $19,000. Maximum income is $32,000 which was the same when I first applied. I got a packet to fill out & bring to an interview, affordable housing is such a joke. I guess I'll still have to share a d**n room, the affordable housing doesn't take full-time students. It's hard to make $20,000/yr when you're working part-time & a student.

So now I'm screwed because they changed the minimum income amount while I was in the waiting list?

  1. Are you looking to buy or for housing assistance in rent?  You might try section 8 housing if looking for rent help.

  2. If they changed the requirements while you were on the wait list, then then the new requirements will apply to you.  If you no longer qualify because of the new requirements, they will deny you when you go to the interview or send you a letter saying your interview has been canceled due to the fact that you do not qualify.

  3. You misunderstand the rules.  You will qualify. They will help you find a way.  Go in and talk to them again. /
