Was our tip to the movers too cheap?

We used a local moving company to move our things to our new house last month. We have used this company in the past with our previous move, and we liked them. Coincidentally, the same 4 guys also moved us this time, and remembered us. Our move was on Long Island, NY. Drive time from our old house to our new one was 20 min. Total work time was 4 hours. We packed ALL of our own things--except lamps, and big furniture that need to be wrapped. We provided water, and other drinks. I even helped carry out some of our stuff to the trucks (I have a hard time sitting still while others work around me). After the move, my husband, handed each of the 4 men $20 tip. The guy in charge came in to settle the bill which was over $1000. Then he proceeded to tell us "Hey, could you add on another $40 to the bill for the speed of the move?". I was really taken back and became pissed pretty quickly. I said "are you kidding me?", amoung other things. Were we too cheap?

  1. no i don't think so.

I think the guy was just being greedy. I mean, if all they were doing was basically putting it in and pulling it out of the truck, then no you were fine and had every right to be mad. Besides, with a bill over $1000, i think $20 was plenty

    I think that was fine

    Hope this helps

  2. No, You were no cheap. You were generous enough.

Those guys have their wage plus Your tip. And

yet they asked for more money. They have been rude or

they see You as naive people

  3. i thought a tip was just a tip and at your discretion.
