Question:

Was she a mother before?

We had 2 female rats already - but their cage is huge so we decided to get 2 more girls. We brought the new girls home today (this was their 2nd day of being old enough to leave their mom). Now one of my rats I already had (shes about 5 months) has completely taken the mother role, she baths the new ones, the whole bit. Does this mean she was a mother before?

Because the other rat isn't even paying attention to the new ones.

  1. Its very possible all though rats have a VERY high motherly instinct. 5 months is pretty early for babies but it is possible. I bet she is ADORARBLE. Hope i helped, Good Luck!!

  2. well one of our kittens cleans and licks our other kitten, and i'm sure she hasn't had kittens because we got her and she was very young. May be she thinks those are her kids. GOOD LUCK! =D

  3. More than likely she is merely taking on the mother role, many animals will do this when they are near young ones. It has nothing to do with if they had babies before. PS i just hope you are correct that these young ones are actually female.

  4. I would say Yes

  5. hm... sounds possible
