Was sugar ever used in warfare?

I watched the movie, Shooter, and it said that sugar was once used during the napoleanic wars to heal wounds sustained by soldiers. Is this true? If so, how does it work?

  3. I think they use sugar and gasoline to make some horrible thing in WWII and Vietnam

    But as for healing, see link  I was facinated.  

    Honey is also sometimes used.

    In ancient Egypt it was maybe the first generic medicine They used it instead of honey And they used honey to heal brain surgury ( And about everything else)
