  1. The Republican Party’s Left Turn:  16 years after our Murhpy Brown Moment.

It’s hard to believe that only twenty years ago the Republican Party still stood for the values of the conservative movement.  No greater example of the decline in conservative influence in the Republican Party exists than the difference between the Republican’s 1988 Vice Presidential choice, Dan Quayle and the 2008 pick - Sarah Palin

Quayle lambasted liberals for their “poverty of values” and slammed popular culture when he said: “It doesn't help matters when primetime TV has Murphy Brown—a character who supposedly epitomizes today's intelligent, highly paid, professional woman—mocking the importance of fathers, by bearing a child alone, and calling it just another 'lifestyle choice.”

Today, 16 years later, the Republican VP candidate’s daughter epitomizes the values that Quayle attacked.  Palin’s daughter, a single 17 year old pregnant girl, is the real life version of the fictional character that Quayle made the poster child of Liberal values.

How is it that within a mere 16 years our party went from taking on Murphy Brown values to representing them at the top of our ticket?  How is it that we now celebrate the decay of decency at the very top of our ticket?
