Was the WWII Sten gun an effective weapon?

On Wikipedia, it looks like it was almost impossible to aim, it had a slow rate of fire, and low muzzle energy. Not a very big magazine either. Looks like it was no better than a 12 gauge shot gun.

  1. it was actually so effective after wwII the israeli army used it until the uzi was made.

  2. It was Very Good Sub Machine gun it was made out of stamped steal so it was fast easy and cheap to make in the end it turned out well for the british

  3. The sten was a much needed firearm for British forces during WWII.  It was easy to mass produce being stamped.  It was and is a short range firearm and never meant to be a sniper rifle.  They had the SMLE after all.  The cyclic rate of 550rds per minute is only slightly slower than the UZIs 600 rpm.  The 32 round magazine is still more be it two, but more than the Famed H&K MP-5.

The basic sten was updated into the sterling and used up and during the British retaking of the Falklands.  They were finally phased out with the adoption of the SA80.  The true oddball of the family is the Australian's F 1 that has the magazine loading from the TOP!.
