Question:

Was the hit on Geelong's Ling by Freo's Solomon good enough to keep the "Bring Back the Biff" brigade, happy?

Several weeks ago when Sydney's Hall king-hit WCE's Staker many members in this section commented on how good it was to see; they wanted more of it; Staker deserved all he got; Staker was a weakling; the rest of the Eagles players were weaklings for not fixing up Hall; many signed off with the words, "Bring back the Biff". (Many were females, as well!).

OK I will now say how wonderful it was to see Ling get flattened. I wish there was more of it. I wish it happened to Ablett & Bartels as well because they were weak & didn't even-up on Solomon.

So with any luck there will be more players following Hall & Solomon's behaviour. Wont the games be great to watch then? What do you think?

  1. Nice question!  Love the irony!  Very, very funny!!  We'll see how many get the joke - and how many rise to the bait.

The answer, as you say, depends on who you barrack for, and which teams you hate.  They like to dish it, but when its dished back, they are up in arms.

Taggers run the risk that at some point someone will lose it and give them what for, and as you say, it can only improve Ling's overall appearance so there may be some positive to come from it.  Poor Cameron - the only star that has to take a bloke as his guest to the Brownlow.

But if you found joy in it, then you are clearly just another rubber-necker.

  2. Well it has been like sitting at an 80's match again..

I dont know who has been more excited at all this 'biff' this weekend-Us supporters or the commentators, yesterday on channel 7 they were going off during the day.Secretly i think the guys enjoys seeing all of it again after all this time.It bought back a cetain excitment to the game...

Gotta say i think it was good of Solomon to come out and appologise after the match,it would of been a hard thing to do,so good on him for having the balls to stand up and say sorry...(might even improve Ling's looks a bit)....

  3. I know what your saying, I would love to see how everyone feels when the Cats lose Ablett, Jimmy and Chapman due to the 'Biff'. I don't know how they can call themselves footy fans when all they want to see is great players missing important games due to broken faces. Why dont they start watching boxing instead.

  4. Yes, they are all hypocrites.

One in here sez she loves the biff but doesn't like to see anyone injured! Now that's what I call hypocrisy.....

Others love to see players from teams, other than who they support, biffed & injured.

What stikes me the most is that those that are this way inclined are females (so have never played the game) & blokes who have never played the game......or if they did they were either thugs & could only compete by thuggery due to lack of ability - or were fringe pansies who were too scared to go into the packs & mix it, in case they got hurt.

  5. No - you see then the problem is the guys who prefer boxing will play our game rather than be man enough to align toes in a ring.  May as well sign up Anthony Mundine on the wing for the Cats now - he da man.

Have you noticed how it's two players with nothing to lose.  Solomon - traded promptly and cheaply out of a half decent team, now playing for a club with no chance.  He swipes Ling - now if Ling, Ablett, Bartel or Mooney - any of whom would probably wipe him within a round - retaliate and get six weeks, they know they've damaged their team's chances for their second flag in 45 years.  That's discipline and teamwork!

Hall - on the last legs of a mediocre career and who has publicly declared his lack of interest wants to sign up one million dollar fight with Mundine so he stirs up some publicity on a guy who was never gonna strike back.

Well Barry - I share your lack of interest!

EDIT: Actually Saklaing ... Cam Ling has a gorgeous girlfriend (no I couldn't believe it either).  It was Jimmy Bartel who took a mate to the do last year coz his girl was in the UK.

  6. No, it wont be enough to keep them happy.

Those blood thirsty girls you are referring to would have been in their element as spectators watching gladiators fight, during the bloodthirsty days of the Roman Empire. They say the worst at those games were the females!

  7. its pretty g*y really

  8. If anyone is happy to trade off the suspension of highly paid players, injuries (sometimes serious), and free kicks for the opposition (which could mean the difference between winning and losing) - just to satisfy a basic lust to witness a brief moment of 'biff' ... then they are merely tools.

  9. ye, i reckon it would b good for the game as it is becoming more like soccer with the diving and soft free kicks. i hate soccer

  10. With respect that was no "biff", just a flying elbow going past. Barry Hall - that was a biff. Chelsea, how can you have it both ways - like the biff so long as nobody's hurt. a contradiction of terms. The AFL tribunal works on the same basis. A bloke gets a whack in the jaw - no damage, no penalty. Broken jaw - severe sentence. A farce. Make the penalty fit the crime - 4 weeks for fractured cheekbone earns 4 weeks suspension. We are too soft on crime. To clean this out, penalise to make it hurt and prevent it happening.

  11. As much As I enjoy The violence in Footy I don't think Hall should have been congratulated on his Actions for hitting Staker. if you watch the replay of the incident you'll see that Hunter reacts straight away but unfortunately makes a fool of himself by falling down trying to avoid being hit himself. Waters also reacts at half time and Hunter runs past again whacking him in the shoulder.

I already Enjoy watching the games already and I think if you want more Violence in Footy at the moment you should switch to another sport perhaps Boxing. You should Like the Game for what it is and Not encourage all this Violence (I know I sound like an old Grandma saying this). If you want to encourage all the Idiot players out their like Hall and Solomon go ahead but in the end I think you'll end up looking like an idiot yourself for wanting these players to disgrace there club and the game itself.

  12. Man, I hate seeing all this c**p in our game. Why can't players focus on their skill levels, not flattening opposition players. Both Hall and Solomon are scum, and should be banned from AFL if they are going to act like that.

  13. Haha.. Here we go... bring on the thumbs down and SHAME on you!!

The Fev, King Solomon and Bad Barry... wat an exciting week of footy!!

Give us all something to talk about on here instead of voting whos the sexiest, ugliest and who wants whos baby.. hee

My bad... Wat a whack Solomon..

My bad... Way to psych out Max, Fev..

    And My biggest bad...

My Big Bad 'lost the plot' Bustling Barry Hall!!

Love it love it love it!!

EDIT: Come on 'bring back the biff' I'm a girl, I played full back and I copped and dealt out punishment wen it was needed.. Have you only watched the Aussie rulz since the year 2000? You cant have all that testosterone without a little biff..!!

  14. **I don't have a problem with 'the Biff' being brought back and I find it entertaining when the boys are trying to rough each other up a bit but I do have a problem with players being injured as a result.

There is nothing wonderful or entertaining about players breaking or fracturing bones!!  Solomon will deserve everything that he gets at the tribunal.**

  15. I think the slogan " Bring back the BIff" is plain stupid.... people want to watch footy not a **** team trying to out do a top team for the sake of it..... Freo knew they stood no chance against the Cats and came out swinging..... pity them and the **** team they are...... the fact the Geelong players did'nt retaliate does show the strength in their team and where there priorities lie..... the face the Bulldogs next week and cannot afford to lose any players to stupidity....... Thats what makes a good team great!!!!! And thats why Freo is... well.... Freo!! I think there should be tougher penalties for di*$heads that come out swingin' with a goal in mind to knock top players...... So "Bring Back the Biff" ?....... Don't think so!!!!!

  16. Firstly that's an NRL footy show thing.secondly AFL sucks c**p.

  17. a biff is a fight, a big brawl, not a cowardly deliberate hit for no reason.

  18. They do the crime they have to pay the time they know when this thing happens they know they are going to get nabbed so why do it

  19. You are stupid don't say you want Bartel and ablett to get knocked out when they are some of the best players in the competition! Stupid teams like Fremantle think they can come out and put physical pressure on Geelong and that will do the job- think again geelong are too good too get sucked into that sort of c**p! Just play football and leave all the fighting too little half time pushes and shoves!
