Was the late Humphrey Bogart a champion chess player, as well as an actor?

No. He played chess by mail with GIs during WWII. He never was a champion player.

Bogart was a very good chess player ranked one step below Grand Master but he never played for money. He played with other actors/actresses on many of his movie sets and was reputed to have beaten a world champion on one occasion.
