Was the murder of the coach's relative in Beijing an attempt to sabotage the U.S. men's volleyball team?

We know the Chinese government has made winning medals a priority.

This is the same government that brazenly misrepresents the facts on other matters. For example, a government spokesman recently claimed that Chinese citizens have complete religious freedom, a laughably false claim.

This is the same government that has, in shameless disregard for its own solemn promises, curtailed the rights of reporters and journalists to freely report from China.

This is the same government that has violated Olympic rules by falsifying records to introduce underage girls onto its gymnastics team.

Now we have a situation in which the coach of the U.S. men's volleyball team has been taken from his duties by the murder of a relative (such a crime being otherwise almost unknown).

In the absence of a free press, how can we be sure that this was not a deliberate act ordered by the Communist dictatorship?

  1. I think the above answerer is more on target.  China lost reputation because of the murder, something that Chinese fear more than losing a medal.  Indeed, I am in China now, and some Chinese speculate the murderer was an anti-government activisit who deliberately murdered to make the regime look bad.

I doubt that too.  But I have had two Chinese people come and apologize to me, as I am American, and say they are shamed by the incident.

  2. Oh yes! That's just what them communists want, to take over our great country by sabotaging our Olympic team!! grow up and read the news, idiot! If they wanted to destroy us they could do so in a half an hour....Try to stop watching Fox News..it's affecting your brain!!!!

  3. I had just said that I suspect that could be the case. They're also using plain clothes officers. I wonder if one of them was the one who committed the assault. Remember this is the country where they censor google to mask the events at Tienanmen square.

  4. We will probably never know for certain but I'm not sure they would risk their "perfect" country image that they are trying to show the world over men's volleyball. It was quite an embarrassment for China in the opening days of something they have worked so hard on.

Now, if it had been men's basketball......?

My heart goes out to the Bachman family.

  5. According to the Chinese, the man was deranged and having problems with his home life.  After the murder of the in-laws of the U.S. Volleyball coach, the man plummeted to his death.  Again, this is according to the Chinese through official press releases.  The truth we may never know as the Chinese are almost as good as the Russians at feeding the press what it wants them to know.  The Chinese press never questions it, the rest of the world however usually does.

  6. Yes, indeed there is a lot of evil going on in this world to destroy people, ideas, and organizations..this seems to have been a random act of violence..but I can see people looking at it in other ways
