If so, why was the ozone hole at its biggest in 2006?

And how do we even know what the "baseline" is for ozone in the upper atmosphere given that we have satellite data going back only to the 1970s?

Was there an ozone hole in the 1300s? The 1300s BC? 130 million years ago?

  1. To me, the answers to your questions is dependent on believing what our government tells us.  Of course our government would not lie to us.  Some things are real and some things are made up to promote certain agendas.  It is all what people believe.  How can we the people tell about those things.

  2. The ozone layer is a good example why we must be cautious when it comes to environmental issues, and why we must not jump to conclusions.

The environmental hysteria of the 70's and 80's was how CFCs were causing a hole in the ozone layer.  I accepted that notion without a thought.  I heard it often enough, and it was in the news all of the time.  One day I was watching a news program and a scientists was questioning the theory.  When he was asked why, he said the size of the hole keeps changing and it moves, and they have not studied the hole for a long period of time to come to a definitive conclusion.

But the environmentalist were becoming alarmists.  We were already seeing an increase in skin cancer rates, and if we did not address this problem, we were to have had a pandemic of skin cancers by today.

Coincidently, the other environmental issue back then was garbage and the need to use biodegradable products.  Styrofoam containers were at the top of their hit list.  CFCs were used to make stryrofoam.
