  1. Give it to the Kiwis, have some sympathy, after all they have precious little else to be proud about. Unless you like sheep that is.

  2. dont know, australians or kiwi's.

  3. it's a toss up between the aussies and the kiwis

  4. There is a controversary with both Australia and New Zealand.

While it has been suggested this dessert was created in New Zealand, it has also become recognized as a popular Australian dish. Both countries claim to have invented this dessert and claim it as their national dish.

There are a number of sights which give both credit for the invention.

However, if it's for the actual recipe, then it has to go to a New Zealander.

In New Zealand, a cookbook published in 1926 by E. Futter titled Home Cookery for New Zealand contained a recipe for "Meringue with Fruit Filling." Although the name Pavlova is not used, the recipe is similar.

  5. Not sure but it's only been Australians who I've ever seen making one...or having one...

The first time I tasted one was when I was an exchange student and they had each of us bring a traditional dish from our countries and an Australian girl brought a pavlova in.
