It's clear that there is a legitimate threat of a Russian aerial attack in most Georgian cities. The U.S. State Department has announced that it has credible evidence that this is a pre-planned and coordinated invasion of Georgia by the Russian Federation.

BUT, CNN reports that: "no jets were seen or heard". And, throughout history, many leaders have faked assassination attempts to gain popular support. This was the premise of the 2005 film, The Interpreter, starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.

If the "attack" was staged by Saakashvili's security detail then it was a bit of very poor acting. Nobody was injured or harmed in any way, and little, if any, sympathy was gained. So I have no idea, does anybody have a solid conclusion?

  1. Russia has been itching for the Georgians to take the bait..How else can you explain the large Russian force all of sudden sitting on the Georgian border..Russia has been allowing the Ossetian sepratist to take shots at Georgia just for this response..And Georgia gave the Russian the excuss they needed..

Let the Russians try this with Poland and Ukraine...

  2. Saakashvili heard Georgia's artillery and thought it was Russian bombing.

Of course, it is only a version, I don't know the truth.
