Was the term "Manny being Manny" Sox fan's way of saying

I've noticed alot of Red Sox fans were quiet about him or defended him until he was traded. Was the term "Manny being Manny" Sox fan's way of saying we hate his BLEEP but he played a big role in getting us a WS or 2 so we were ok with it?

do these questions suck or am i asking at the wrong time of day?

It always sounded to me as if they were not exactly fond of his behavior and attitude at times, but they simply tolerated it because he was such a productive hitter.

nope it was our way of saying how he is different than everybody, what major league do u see high five a fan or make a call on his phone during pitching changes. manny was a yankee killer stat wise and also a great and different person, i will always like manny for being different.

"manny being manny" is a nice way of saying "manny is retarded" like "awww that kid is so special" it's not so much that Sox fans hate him it's just a nice way of referring to his retarded actions like when he cut off johnny damon's relay throw from the outfield, which by the way was thrown pretty hard, and i think the batter ended up with an inside the park home run. it's hard to hate a guy who helped your team win it's first world series ring in like 80 years you know what i'm saying...
