  1. Hitler declared war on the US as others of already stated on 12/11/1941.  The reasons were:

    1)  The US was basically at war with Germany anyhow, providing the Brits with massive amounts of military equipment including 50 destroyers from WW1 which despite what  some say were very valuable (a lot of the British Navy was from WW1 or just a few years later.

    2)  This allowed German u-boats to attack these so called neutral US ships carrying weapons to Britain.

The Americans were even protecting these convoys half way across the Atlantic and already had attacked and sunk German subs.

    3)  Hitler realized that after PH was attacked the Americans would find some excuse to get in the war in Europe and in fact FDR had convinced most Americans that the attack was Hitler's idea.  So Hitler took the only logical option which was to fight the US while it was at its weakest.  Prior to PH the American people overwhelmingly demanded the US stay neutral and Hitler did everything he could to keep it that way.  Japan did not tell Hitler of its intentions to attack the US and Hitler was urging Japan to attack Russia instead to draw off some Russian troops from the war in the east.

  2. Germany declared war on the US on December 11, 1941.  The US reciprocated the next day.

  3. Yes.

    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

    America declares war on Japan

n**i Germany and the rest of the Axis declares war on the US shortly after

  4. Yes, which is something that baffles historians to this day. On December 11, 1941 Hitler declared war on the US, the only time he actually declared on on a country rather than simply attack them provoking them to declare war on Germany (or attacking one of their allies which provoked them to declare war on Germany). Hitler's Germany was always "defending" itself despite the fact that it usually instigated the hostilities.

But then after Pearl Harbor Hitler did something that went against what he'd been doing so far in the war, he declared war on a country before they declared war on him. Was Hitler really trying to come to the assistance of his Japanese allies? Did he think the US would declare war on Germany first and he was beating us to the punch? Did he think we'd be too busy with Japan to actually send troops to Europe and thus he could easily attack us? Was it a mistake? Was it retaliation fur lend-lease? No one knows why he did it.
