Since before the sixties goalies did not regularly wear masks, my question is was there a restriction to how high a player could raise there stick on a shot?

  1. There were not many rules back then or at least the referees did not or could not enforce them. I remember watching and the ice would be covered with blood. Of course maybe it was octopus since we always watched the red wings.

  2. wait for Lity, he's about the only one knowlegable + old enough to fill you in on this

    (no offence mon ami !!)

hmm 288 v 3.0 (I didn't know Bill Gates was from Toronto?) .. anyway as far as I know the fastest timed shot was Bobby Hull at 119.5 mph (192.3 kph)

  3. no

  4. Until 1948, a stick could not come up above the waist on a shot.  It was a rule, but not a penalty.   It was very hard to enforce as well.

It wasn't until the 1950s when slapshots became common that this happened with any regularity anyway.

  5. No, there wasn't. I think you're thinking of the curve of the stick. The league didn't start to make rules on that until expansion, I believe, and they were thinking safety when they implemented it. If there's too much curve, then the puck could go 150+mph....and that's just a wrist shot.

  6. no    i think that all the goal play stand up not butterfly             so the players shot lower.
