  2. Probably lots of hymns were sung to keep their courage up as they crossed over rivers, swamps, and dark woods full of creatures that wanted to bite them.

  3. slaves used to sing a song that would tell them where to go so that their masters would not understand. i heard it when i was in school. dont remeber how it goes. im sure they sang songs to past time while they traveled the underground railroad. just in case you dont know, underground railroad wasnt actually an underground railroad. it was a series of hideouts from the south to the north.
